The Bold Intentions Show
Twenty-two flowers individually pose and glow in a transcendent light
that highlights their forms, voluptuous and sinuous and vivid. No,
nothing like Georgia O´Keefe - these images capture the long line of
the forms. Terepka photographs flowers as if they were sheathed in
long dresses and white gloves, standing looking back over their bared
shoulders at something surprisingly interesting.

Volume I Issue 2 launched, plus journal/contributor news

Poemeleon Volume I Issue 2 has just launched, so please do check it out.

It's a feast for the mind -- and the eyes. Just click on the link(s) at the end of each poem to view the artwork that the poem is responding to. There are also a few surprises in there -- it's not just limited to paintings.

*

Three contributors have recently released books:

larry bauer (Volume I Issue 1), health insurance and other matters of death, from Foothills Publishing;

Sheila Black (Volume I Issue 1), How to be a Maquiladora, from Main Street Rag press; and

Alex Grant (Volume I Issue 2), Chains & Mirrors, from Harperints. Congratulations!

*

Lastly, Poemeleon limited edition chapbooks -- featuring work from Volume I Issue 1, which was dedicated to place -- are now available for purchase online at $5/each including s&h.

These are the poems that were read during the launch reading in July (see navigation sidebar for a link to the photos), including work by Maureen Alsop, larry bauer, Lavina Blossom, Gayle Brandeis, Wendy Taylor Carlisle, Chella Courington, Catherine Daly, Lucia Galloway, Bob Hicok, Judy Kronenfeld, and Ren Powell.

I only have a limited quantity left, and they will never be reprinted. All proceeds go toward the production costs of Poemeleon.

Inlandia anthology reading

In case any of you are within driving distance of downtown Riverside, there is a reading this Saturday to celebrate the launch of a new anthology called Inlandia. Several Poemeleon contributors are included in the anthology, and the reading will feature 14 inland-area authors, including the award-winning novelists Susan Straight and Gayle Brandeis. I will be there assisting with book sales. Check out the flyer below for more information.

Celebrating our Region in Word, Image, and Sound INLANDIA FESTIVAL @ Riverside Public Library SATURDAY December 9, 10 am - 6 pm

The public is invited to a day-long Festival, celebrating excellence in literature, music, and photography of the Inland Empire.

It's all happening indoors and outdoors at RIVERSIDE PUBLIC LIBRARY, 3581 Mission Inn Avenue, right next door to the Mission Inn, on Saturday, December 9, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

14 Authors will present their work, with discussion, book-signing and sales.

Live music performances include: SENRYU TAIKO DRUMMERS, MORONGO BIRD SINGERS, GUSTAVO & LUZ ROMERO singing MEXICAN CORRIDOS, and DOMINIQUE McCAFFERTY singing songs composed at the Mission Inn.

Multi-ethnic food booths will sell all kinds of delicious dishes on the Library Plaza. Historic photographs of the region will be on display in the Library through the month of December.

The festival is inspired by the publication of a new book, titled INLANDIA: A LITERARY JOURNEY THROUGH CALIFORNIA'S INLAND EMPIRE.

Dan Bernstein described it as, "a literary anthology with all the twists and turns of a sticky, can't-put-it-down novel".

Juan Felipe Herrera calls it, "a mesmerizing, visionary collection* a California tour de force".

Heyday Books' publisher Malcolm Margolin will be emcee, and Juan Felipe Herrera will assist, along with Riverside Public Library's life-sized mascot, Buzz Bee.

The 14 authors who will be reading and discussing their work from this book include: Susan Straight, Katherine Saubel, Kevin Siva, Lowell Bean, Laura Kalpakian, Michael Jaime-Becerra, Alex Espinoza, Gayle Brandeis, Dwight Yates, Juan Delgado and Sholeh Wolpe. Deborah Wong will read for George Fujimoto and Mary Paik Lee, and Naomi Harada will read Sumi Harada's poem about her mother.

Historic photographs on special display are from Riverside Public Library's large SHADES OF RIVERSIDE collection, gathered over a period of years from local families.

In addition, the Library is displaying the large and little-known AVERY FIELDS COLLECTION of historic panoramic views of the region.

RELATED EVENT: December 5 at 6:30 pm Special Screening of Historic Silent Film, The Winning of Barbara Worth, by Henry King, starring Ronald Coleman, Vilma Banky, Gary Cooper, 1926, adapted from the best-selling novel by HAROLD BELL WRIGHT, who lived and wrote at the Mission Inn Hotel and in Redlands.
