Well, another year has and come gone. And to mark the occasion we held our 3d Annual Summer Reading on Thursday August 7, 2008.
Held on the roof of the Riverside Art Museum (you can read the original promo for it here), it went swimmingly. Of course, no matter how well-thought out a thing is, there is always something that one didn't consider. For instance, I was a little concerned that the heat might be a bit much, or that the museum-goers might not know that we were there, but the weather was comfortable -- just right, in fact -- and people did trickle up throughout the reading (that opening shot of the audience doesn't include everyone in eventual attendance); however, what I didn't consider was the distance to the bathrooms (they're on the first floor) or the possibilty of traffic noise (we had the occasional circling police helicopter (!), as well as general road noise wafting up from below).
My thanks go out to my associate, Maureen, for helping me organize the event, and to Hilda Weiss and Poetry L.A. for coming out and filming us (as soon as they get the footage edited I'll post the link), and a great big thank you to all of our readers: Lavina Blossom, Charlotte Davidson, Lucia Galloway, Jeff Green, Judy Kronenfeld, Sarah Maclay, Randolph Maxted, and Ruth Nolan; and our deepest regrets that Frances McConnel and Carine Topal had to cancel the day of due to unforseen circumstances -- hopefully we can catch them next year!
And thanks to the Riverside Art Museum for hosting us once again.
