About "The Comtesse . . ." and "Young Woman Seated at a Virginal": I have always been drawn to portraits of women. The artists’ placement of them in their milieux speaks eloquently of the forces at play in their lives, against which they seem to maintain an equilibrium.
The author of a chapbook collection of poems, Playing Outside (Finishing Line Press, 2005), Lucia Galloway has also published poetry in Columbia Poetry Review, Cumberland Poetry Review, Flyway, Gertrude, The Lyric, Poemeleon, Poetry Midwest, and Spillway, among others. Awards include the Bread Loaf School of English Poetry Prize; first- and second-place prizes in the Dancing Poetry Contest, Artists Embassy International; Honorable Mention in the MacGuffin National Poet Hunt, and a Pushcart nomination. Lucia teaches writing on line for the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Distance Education Program.
