I saw Brenner's exhibition at the Brooklyn Art Museum in New York one weekend as a birthday gift. It was extraordinary. This photograph in particular captured me. I must have looked at it for at least twenty minutes. I sat down on the floor after a while and just stared upward at it. I was really moved and speechless about the image. It was on our trip home on the train that I began to put words to my experience and started drafting this poem. There is still a certain magic I feel looking at the image and thinking about it. It speaks to me about generations and creativity and survival. Things that I think about a lot but about which I have few answers.
