“Assumptions of the Virgin” was written following one of many trips to the Chicago Art Institute.  I found a curious juxtaposition of two works of art with the same title (“Assumption of the Virgin”), one a huge painting by El Greco, the other an anonymous, badly-aged, marble sculpture. 

“Assumptions of the Virgin” is a result of my seeing the two pieces within minutes of each other.
